Have you ever had a dream, a strong desire to obtain something, to travel somewhere, to change a relationship or to reach a certain level of success in your life or business?
Perhaps your goal is to lose twenty pounds, earn more money, run a marathon or just be healthier.
What would you say if I told you that there was an untapped secret tool in your brain that could help you attain all you desire…
Which only a fraction of people know about and even less use.
It’s called your reticular activating system (RAS) and it’s that part of your brain that filters out the white noise of your 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day and grasps what is really important.
What’s important? Well the RAS has decided that it’s whatever you focus on.
And then it works to make you right.
Have you ever noticed that the kid who insists he is a poor math student never gets an A in math? Or the woman who tells her peers she is shy – stays that way?
The RAS grasps on to what you have informed it is meaningful and works to make it true.
Here is another example.
A few years ago, my oldest daughter purchased a Subaru.
Before that transaction happened, I couldn’t pick a Subaru out of a lineup if my life depended on it.
Suddenly, swarms of Subarus appeared in my line of vision.
Old ones, shiny new ones, but most of all white ones – just like hers.
In a nutshell, whatever you focus on increases.
Or, as mentor once told me ” What you talk about, you bring about” and how right she was.
A lack mindset might focus on bills, and how broke one is
while someone with a prosperity mindset in that same situation might focus on finding a new job,
as well as gratitude for current assets.
So Juliana- how can I make this RAS thing work for me?
Let me tell you…
It’s pretty easy, the tough part is actually doing it.
First, you need to tell your brain what you want. Your goals, dreams, and plans.
The key is to tell your RAS that these have already come to pass.
For instance, a goal of losing 25 pounds translates to something like:
I am a healthy and strong, I weigh 150 pounds and get healthier every day. ( With the 150 pound number being the goal weight)
A desire for more money might be stated:
I am grateful for a quick and substantial increase in income.
(Gratitude is a different but related and vital subject, which I will discuss another day.)
If your worry is paying your bills, focus on the paid bills:
My bills are paid immediately when received, with plenty of money left over.
Write affirmations down and read them aloud ten times each, several times each day.
As you repeat them, visualize the outcome as already completed.
I like to keep mine on a 3 x 5 card kept in my pocket.
In two weeks, you might notice something changing in the way you think. Ideas will pop into your brain. Write them down.
Keep it up, in one month, you will notice you are more accepting that what you are saying is true.
Once I needed a certain amount of money for a trip I was planning. I kept repeating
All of my expenses for my trip to Las Vegas are covered.
Three days later, someone offered me a free extra room they had.
Ten days later, I remembered that many years ago someone had told me that an old job owed me some money.
I went online to an unclaimed property website and found several hundred dollars owed to me,
immediately filled out the forms, and now had money for meals and entertainment.
Even though I had forgotten about this money, my subconscious mind had not.
One more thing, these goals must be written positively. Instead of I wont eat junk food, use I make healthy food choices.
The reticular activating system doesn’t understand negatives and you might end up eating tons of junk food if you use the first option.
